Planning an Adelaide fabric safari?
In this roundup of fabric stores in Adelaide, I’ve focused on stores that sell fabric by the metre (mostly for sewing clothing), some that focus on haberdashery and a few other random inclusions that you might be interested in. They are organised by general area, so you can plan your tour.
If I’ve missed any that you would recommend, please let me know here.

Fabric stores in Adelaide city
Lincraft - Adelaide city
Address: Shop 3, Level 1, Myer Centre, 14 Rundle Mall, Adelaide
Open: Mon – Sun
The Lincraft Adelaide city store is very conveniently located in the Myer Centre in the mall.
The usual fare here – a great source for haberdashery and general craft supplies, and OK for certain types of fabric basics.
Adelaide Leather & Saddlery
Address: 221 Waymouth Street, Adelaide
Open: Mon – Fri
Although not a fabric supplier, I’ve included these guys as they have some great bag making and general haberdashery supplies. These include lovely leather belt lengths (good for bag handles and hard to find) and bag hardware such as buckles, eyelets, fasteners, cord and zippers.
They also stock leather hides if sewing with leather is your jam.
Customer service is reported to be excellent.
Fabric of Life
Address: 3A Percy Court, Adelaide
Open: Tues – Thurs
Fabric of Life is not a fabric-by-the-metre store, but I’ve included them here as most people who are into fabric appreciate great textiles.
They offer ready-made products and also focus on the display, conservation and preservation of textiles.
They sell hand-made textiles including cushions, quilts, bags and tea towels (a brilliant affordable art option).
Several styles of textiles are on offer including Australian Aboriginal designs, Ikat, Suzani and Mexican embroidery.
Fabric stores in Adelaide - Southern suburbs
Address: 611a Marion Road, South Plympton

Parking: At the back of the store
The Needleworks stock beautiful quality dressmaking fabrics with a focus on natural fibres. Their range includes cotton, silk, linen, wool and mixed fibres such as bengaline and ponte.
They also offer sewing lessons and have a growing range of tutorials on YouTube.
Ferrier Fashion Fabrics
Address: 374 Fullarton Road, Fullarton
Open: Mon – Sat
Ferriers is an Adelaide institution and have been operating for 40 years.
They stock a solid range of dressmaking fabrics for day wear and special occasion wear. They also have a growing range of bridal lace, silk, taffeta and satin available in store. You can also order from a catalogue offering a broader range of special occasion wear fabrics.
They also carry a comprehensive range of decorative trims, ribbons, buttons, linings, interfacing and other haberdashery.
Tricia's Discount Fabrics
Address: 11 – 13 Price St, Melrose Park
Open: Mon – Sun, various hours
Tricia’s is an Aladdin’s Cave packed to the rafters with fabric and haberdashery. Tricia stocks loads of quilting fabric and also a solid range of dressmaking basics including a particularly good range of dance fabrics.
With over 100 five star reviews, this is a local favourite. The general sentiment is that if you’re after something specific, especially haberdashery, Tricia probably has it!
Excellent service and great prices are the icing on the cake.
Create in Stitch
Address: 433a Fullarton Rd, Highgate
Open: Mon – Sat
Create in Stitch is not exactly a fabric store, but if you’re in the neighbourhood and you’re into embroidery or stitching of any kind, it’s definitely worth popping in.
The fabric they stock is mostly base cloth for stitching – even weave linens, aida cloth and silks. They also have an impressive range of embroidery threads, tools, trims, kits, books and magazines.
Customers says their staff are friendly, knowledgeable and super helpful.

Fabric stores in Adelaide - Northern suburbs
Address: 105 Port Road Hindmarsh
Open: Mon – Sat
To say that DK Fabrics are huge is an understatement!
They stock everything from bridal and special occasion fabrics through to specialist dance fabric.
There are also lots of everyday fabrics including cottons, linens, corduroy and denim, fleecy and ribbing and the list goes on.
Also massive is their range of haberdashery and costume accessories.
Their store occupies over 1800 square metres of floor space and possibly rivals any other fabric store in Australia for their sheer breadth and depth of their range.
Fabric stores in Adelaide - Western suburbs
Address: 7 James Congdon Drive, Mile End
Open: Mon – Sat
Eastern Silk don’t sell fabric by the metre but I’ve included them because they offer some amazing textiles.
They sell mainly finished silk products such as wraps, scarves, blankets, cushions and some especially gorgeous kantha throws.
However, they also offer a range of silk remnants. Of particular note are their raw silk remnants in jewel colours – definitely worth a look if you’re in the neighbourhood.
